Trend 1: White Oak and Natural Wood Tones
The all-white kitchen dominated South Florida for a decade. In 2026, natural wood tones β particularly white oak and rift-cut oak in a natural or light stain β are the fastest-growing request we see. White oak brings warmth without the visual weight of darker woods, pairs beautifully with quartz or quartzite countertops, and photographs exceptionally well. We're seeing it most in two-tone applications: oak lowers with white or cream uppers, or oak island with white perimeter cabinetry.
In new construction communities like Valencia Grand, Lotus Palm, and Lotus Edge, buyers are selecting GL Homes' base finishes and immediately engaging us to swap them out for white oak cabinetry before they even move in.
Trend 2: Waterfall Islands
The waterfall countertop β where the countertop material continues vertically down the sides of the island β is now standard in mid-range and higher kitchen projects across Palm Beach County. The most popular material for waterfall islands is quartz with Calacatta-style veining, which creates a dramatic focal point while maintaining the low-maintenance benefits of engineered stone. Quartzite is the premium version. Budget an additional $800β$2,500 for the waterfall panel compared to a standard island end.
Trend 3: Integrated and Panel-Ready Appliances
In Equus, Boca Raton luxury builds, and high-end Wellington estates, panel-ready appliances β where the refrigerator, dishwasher, and range hood are covered with cabinet panels to match surrounding cabinetry β are the dominant request. The result is a seamless "furniture look" kitchen where appliances effectively disappear. This requires custom cabinet configuration and adds cost, but the impact is dramatic. Sub-Zero, Gaggenau, and Fisher & Paykel make the most common panel-ready models we work with.
Trend 4: Unlacquered Brass Hardware
After years of matte black and brushed nickel dominance, unlacquered and aged brass hardware is the material of the moment in 2026 South Florida. Unlike polished brass, unlacquered brass develops a natural patina over time β which is the appeal, not a flaw. It pairs with white oak, cream cabinetry, and quartzite countertops to create an organic, lived-in luxury aesthetic. Signature pieces: Rejuvenation, Waterworks, and Restoration Hardware pulls and knobs.
Trend 5: Indoor-Outdoor Integration
South Florida's weather makes this more relevant here than anywhere else in the country. The most requested kitchen feature in our Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, and Wellington projects in 2026 is a direct visual and physical connection between the kitchen and the outdoor living space. This includes pass-through windows above the sink or island that open to a covered lanai, pocket sliding doors that eliminate the wall between kitchen and outdoor kitchen, and consistent flooring from kitchen through to the outdoor patio (large-format porcelain tile handles this transition best).
Our outdoor kitchen projects have increased significantly as homeowners realize the investment return in the South Florida market and the lifestyle value year-round.
Trend 6: Hidden Pantry and Appliance Garages
The "appliance garage" β a cabinet section with a lift-up or tambour door that conceals toasters, coffee makers, and small appliances β is surging in popularity as homeowners prioritize clean countertops. Paired with a large walk-in pantry (now standard in newer construction in communities like Valencia Grand and Lotus Edge), the 2026 South Florida kitchen presents a completely clear countertop at rest. This is a practical and aesthetic upgrade that our design team integrates into most new kitchen plans.
Trend 7: 55+ Community Upgrades: The Fastest-Growing Segment
The Valencia corridor, Canyon communities, and similar 55+ communities represent our highest-volume market segment in 2026. GL Homes delivers beautiful base-level finishes in their new construction β and the buyers moving into $1M+ homes immediately want to upgrade. The most common scope: replace stock GL Homes cabinets with semi-custom in white oak or premium white, add a quartz waterfall island, upgrade to large-format tile throughout, and convert the guest bath tub to a walk-in shower. Total project value: typically $35,000β$65,000. These buyers know exactly what they want, have the budget, and appreciate a contractor who respects their time and delivers on schedule.
What's Fading Out in 2026
All-dark kitchens (black cabinets everywhere) are cooling significantly. Open shelving as a primary storage solution is declining β most homeowners who installed it are now asking to close it back up. Farmhouse sinks remain popular but are no longer the universal request they were 2019β2023. And stainless steel range hoods are giving way to custom wood or plaster surround hoods as the design centerpiece of the kitchen.
