Quartz countertops are engineered stone — natural quartz crystals bound with resin — manufactured in large consistent slabs. Unlike granite, quartz is non-porous: bacteria, wine, and cooking oils don't penetrate the surface. It requires no sealing and is significantly more consistent in pattern than natural stone.

Is quartz or granite better for kitchen countertops?

How thick should my quartz countertop be?
3cm (approximately 1.25 inches) is the standard for kitchen countertops and is what we recommend — it's strong enough to overhang without additional support and has a substantial, high-end appearance. 2cm is used for some bathroom vanity applications.
